Talking About Bad Taste

Dickey's Barbecue Pit franchise website visual design was misaligned with its current branding. The website was built by its in-house creative team with little experience in web design.


 

Goals

  1. Redesign Dickey's franchise website to match their current branding

  2. Align the look and feel of the franchise website with the commercial website

  3. Create settle distinctions between the two websites

Solutions

The Dickey's franchise website adapted similar typography treatments, white space, slanted shapes, navigation and buttons from the commercial website. To differentiate the two sites, the franchise site:

  1. Only used the stencil typeface in the main header to keep the overall typography clean

  2. Pushed the limits of the slanted shape; use it as the background and part of other imageries

  3. Switched the navigation from light gray to full black

  4. Occasionally used cutout images than the traditional square frames
